As a skincare expert I know that In the world of beauty and self-care, even the smallest details to your daily routine can make a surprising positive difference to your skin and hair.
One detail, that is often overlooked by clients, is the pillowcase. The average person in the UK sleeps around 2,190 hours per year, so thats many hours that our skin and hair is in contact with our pillowcase.
While I am known to my skincare clients for shouting from the roof tops that silk pillowcases have so many skin benefits, I have found that most people still use cotton pillowcases. But over the last couple of years there has been more of a growing buzz around silk pillowcases, with a particularly buzz around the brand Slip.
During my research online regarding silk pillowcases, the brand Slip kept popping up and this really sparked my interest. I have tried many different brands over the years in, so I decided to purchase some Slip pillowcases to see how they fair against other brands and if the hype around Slip is justified.
Slip Silk Pillowcases are promising everything from smoother hair to clearer skin, and has become a cult favourite among celebrities like Victoria Beckham, Reese Witherspoon and Julia Roberts also talked about by dermatologists, and beauty enthusiasts alike.
So in this review I will give you my honest review of this brand and these pillowcases from a skincare expert's opinion.
Does Slip truly live up to the hype, or is it just an expensive indulgence?
Who is Slip?

Fiona Stewart, co-founder of Slip Silk Pillowcase, started the company after experiencing skin problems of her own. she suffered from severe skin sensitivity and thinning hair caused by acne medication.
When following her dermatologist’s advice, she tried sleeping on a silk pillowcase but was unable to find one on the market. Determined, she sourced high-quality silk and wrapped it around her pillow, noticing immediate and dramatic improvements.
This personal experience inspired her and her partner, Justin Dubois, to create Slip in 2004, pioneering the silk pillowcase as a beauty product designed to improve skin and hair health. Their goal was not only to build a successful brand but also to share this long-forgotten beauty secret with a wider audience which I personally can definitely jump on board with, as a skincare expert myself.
Slip is now a renowned brand specialising in luxury silk bedding, particularly known for its high-quality silk pillowcases crafted from 100% pure mulberry silk.
Slip says their products have been developed and refined over more than a decade to achieve an optimal balance of softness, durability, and shine, making them a preferred choice among dermatologists and beauty enthusiasts.
What is 100% Mulberry Silk?
100% Mulberry silk is a premium fabric made exclusively from the fibres produced by the Bombyx mori silkworm, which is fed solely on white mulberry leaves. This controlled diet and environment produce silk of exceptional quality, widely regarded as the finest and most luxurious silk available.
The term "100%" signifies that the fabric contains only Mulberry silk fibres, without any blending with other materials. Known for its ultra-soft, smooth texture and natural sheen, Mulberry silk feels gentle and luxurious against the skin.
Mulberry silk is also know to have long, continuous fibers which makes this fabric strong, resistant to tearing, and less prone to pilling or fraying so should be must longer lasting.
Overall, 100% Mulberry silk combines purity, softness, durability, and health benefits, making it the gold standard for luxury textiles used in premium clothing, bedding, and accessories.
Why should you use a silk pillowcase?

Silk pillowcases offer so many benefits for both skin and hair this is why:
Low absorbency
Unlike cotton, silk absorbs significantly less moisture, which helps retain your skin's hydration and prevents dryness and irritation overnight. So your lovely evening moisturiser stays on your skin rather then being pulled out of your skin by the cotton fibres in your pillowcase you are laying on.
Smoother texture
Silk’s smooth texture crucially reduces rubbing and friction, which helps minimise sleep creases and wrinkles on your delicate facial skin, while also preventing hair breakage, frizz, spilt ends, hair tangling and knots.
Hypoallergenic
Silk is naturally hypoallergenic, resisting dust mites and allergens, making it ideal for sensitive skin types like rosacea and eczema or acne-prone and also people that suffer from hay fever and other breathing allergies.
Temperature Regulating
Mulberry silk is highly breathable and excellent at regulating temperature, keeping you cool in summer so perfect for peri-menopausal or menopausal women. Silk will also keep you warm in winter.
Hygroscopic
Hygroscopic, means it absorbs and releases moisture efficiently to maintain skin comfort. Making silk so much more comfortable than other pillowcase materials.
Resilience
Silk is one of the strongest natural fibres, Mulberry silk is durable and long-lasting when cared for properly.
Lasting vibrancy
The fabric also holds dye well, resulting in vibrant and enduring colours.
Environmentally friendly
Mulberry silk is biodegradable and produced with minimal chemical use, making it a sustainable and eco-friendly choice.
Straight out of the box
I was very impressed with the way my Slip products were packaged and presented. Each pillowcase came in a gorgeous bright pink box.
These small boxes will be ideal for storing my pillowcase in when packing it into my suitcase when traveling, Yes you heard me right I do take my silk pillowcase on holiday with me, more about that later in this blog. The box also had the Slip tag line 'anti ageing, anti sleep crease, anti bed head'
Details
Colour Range
Slip have a large choice of colours from DARK GRAPE, CHARCOAL, CARAMEL and a choice of patterns, stripes, GINGHAM and SCALLOPED TRIM.
Sizes

Slip have a choice of 3 different sizes King, Queen and Euro.
I purchased 2 x Queen size pillowcase with no trim, the Queen size is the standard size 51cm x 76cm and the colour I chose was Blush (a lovey bright coral) My Slip cases fits my thinner pillow and my husbands much fuller pillow perfectly.
Zipper Closure

I love that these Slip pillowcases have a hidden zip closure which keeps your pillow nicely tucked in with no movement that you get with a standard folded pocket closure.
Piping
Slip pillowcases have really lovely piping detail around the edges of the pillowcase which looks really professional and also makes them feel more strong and longer lasting. Also they have the Slip logo on the top left corner.
How to wash

Slip pillowcases require gentle care to maintain their luxurious qualities. Normally other brands recommend hand washing with a gentle, pH-neutral liquid detergent or fabric softener to preserve the softness and sheen.
However, Slip’s silk is durable enough to be machine washed on a delicate cycle with cool water, ideally inside a delicates bag.
Air drying in the shade is best, and tumble drying should be avoided. Ironing or steaming on a low heat setting is safe, and dry cleaning is also an option if needed.
How I look after my silk pillowcases

I washed my Slip silk pillowcases on my delicates washing machine setting which is set at 30 degrees with 2 x rinse cycles, a low 400 spin level and 36 minutes wash time.
I also pop them into a delicates wash bag to protect them further. Then once washed I hang them up to dry which doesn't take too long at all.
Why are Slip silk pillowcases so expensive?
The premium price of Slip silk pillowcases is due to the use of the highest grade (6A) long fibre mulberry silk, with a substantial thickness of 22 momme, which contributes to its durability and luxurious feel.
Slip says that the extensive research and development invested in creating the proprietary Slipsilk® fabric, combined with the meticulous manufacturing process, also add to the cost.
This level of quality ensures superior performance in terms of skin and hair benefits, longevity, and comfort compared to cheaper alternatives.
Compared to other premium silk pillowcase brands I found Slip to be around the price I would expect to pay for 100% Mulberry silk pillowcase of this quality.
I paid £105 per pillowcase for mine and they also offer free shipping for over orders of £50 and also offer a 10% off for your first purchase and then regular offers.
Is it worth it?
For those seeking to improve their skin and hair health or simply desiring a touch of luxury in their sleep routine, the Slip silk pillowcase is a worthwhile investment.
Users report noticeable reductions in sleep lines, better skin hydration, and healthier, less frizzy hair after just a few nights.
I wouldn't sleep on anything else but silk for the amazing skin and hair benefits and recommend to my skin care clients all the time
While there are more affordable silk and satin options on the market, Slip stands out for its durability, comfort, and clinically supported benefits.
Where to buy?
I bought mine direct from Slip but if your less fussed about colours, Healf have some really good deals and you can get an extra 10% off with this link.
Other products by Slip
Slip also offer other silk products like these lovely silk hair scrunches in the photo above and also sleep eye masks and hair turbans all made with their 100% mulberry silk.
Slip offer 4 different sizes of hair scrunches, Minnie, skinny, midi and large. I purchase a pack of 6 multi skinny scrunches which includes 2 x pink, 2 x caramel and 2 x black.
They also do hair tone colours like Blonde, Silver, brown and copper so check them out too.

I am very pleased with my Slip pillowcases and my personal opinion is that Slip Silk Pillowcase offers a blend of luxury, functionality, and proven beauty benefits. Its high-quality mulberry silk fabric helps protect skin and hair by reducing friction and moisture loss, while its hypoallergenic properties also support sensitive skin.
Although it comes at a premium price, the durability and effectiveness of the product i feel justify the cost for those prioritising skin and hair care.
Proper care will ensure the your pillowcases remains as a long-lasting addition to your home skincare routine.
Overall, Slip provides an elegant and effective upgrade to your bedtime routine.
Tip
When travelling I take my silk pillowcases with me as I still want to get the benefits of sleeping on silk while my skin and hair is enduring, sun, sea, salt and chorine on my holiday.
So my tip is to purchase a lovely bright colour rather than white for two reasons, 1. that the hotel house keeping will not mistake it for the hotel's pillowcase and 2. it will help you notice it and not leave it behind and forget to pack it before travelling home.
Thank you for taking the time to read my review and I hope you have found it informative and inspires you to try Slip's Silk Pillowcases.
