As a skincare expert for over 25 years, I know that In the world of beauty and self care, even the smallest details to your daily routine can make a surprising positive difference to your skin and hair.
One detail that is often overlooked, is the hard water coming out from our shower head in our wet room/bathrooms. The average person spends 15 minutes in the shower everyday, and some people with longer hair or a more comprehensive routine spending 20 minutes or longer. That is an average of 1 hour 45 minutes spent under the shower water a week.
If Like me, you are Peri-menopausal and suffering with eczema, psoriasis, itchy, dry skin and hair that is thinning and dry, then swopping to a filtered system is definitely something to consider.
In this review I am going to take a deep dive into what hard water is and how that effects our skin and hair and also telling you what I think of the Hello Klean Purifying Shower Head system.
How Does Hard Water Effect Our Skin and Hair?
Hard water from our showers contains high levels of minerals like calcium and magnesium.
These minerals can have a noticeably negative impact on both our skin and hair. Hard water tends to leave a residue that makes it difficult for shampoos and soaps to penetrate, lather and rinse away completely, resulting in a film on the skin and scalp that blocks natural oils needed for hydration.
Just like the build up of a chalky deposit known as limescale consisting of mainly calcium carbonate that coats our shower glass doors, inside our kettles and taps it builds up on our hair and skin to.

Using hard water on our body and facial skin can lead to dryness, itching, and irritation, and may even exacerbate skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and people with allergies or sensitive skin.

Hard water can also make our scalps feel flaky or itchy. The mineral buildup can also interfere with our hair colour, resulting in faded or discolouring of the hair.

Why Hello Klean?
While I was researching Shower head filtering systems I came across Hello Klean and they sparked my interest due to featuring and being successful on Dragons Den, the positive customer reviews, being a British company and their eco friendly and vegan values.
They have an expert panel of a Dermatologist and a Hair colour expect working on their products. It just felt like an exciting relatively new company.
Who Is Hello Klean?
Hello Klean is a British haircare brand known for its shower filters and filtered shower heads that remove chlorine, heavy metals, and impurities from hard water. They say their products help improve hair and skin health, making hair softer and reducing skin irritation. The brand is also eco friendly and vegan.
You might of seen Hello Klean on the BBC's Dragons' Den in April 2023, where founders Karlee and Omer Ozener pitched their water-filtering haircare business to the Dragons.
They asked for £100,000 in exchange for 2% equity, aiming to scale their brand that helps reduce hair and skin problems caused by hard water, a common UK issue.
During the show they successfully secured an investment from Steven Bartlett and since the episode aired they claim to have now achieved a six figure of daily sales with their products becoming more and more popular.
An amazing feature on their website, is a great little section called Your Water Report. Here you can type in your post code and it will give you a full report on the water in your area and how hard it is.
Shockingly my area of Essex was very high, stating that it is 70% harder then other postcodes in the whole of the UK! The report said the water in my area had a 316ppm that means 316 parts per million.
Hello Klean say that over 60% of households in the UK have hard water averaging at 220ppm, so my postcode area is above the average and that is scary.
No wonder may people are out there still suffering with dry, sensitive skin and many with crippling skin conditions. Let's see if Hello Klean is the answer.

Packaged And Delivery
The Hello Klean's Purifying Shower Head and Shampoos arrived quickly and well packaged with a clear instruction card tucked inside.
First Impressions
My first impressions are very good, it is really sturdy and larger head then I was expecting which is a positive as some other brands I have had in the past have been small.
The Overall Look And Feel
Hello Klean's Purifying Shower Head looks so sleek and modern with the ring and hole in the middle, it is really stylish and pleasing to the eye and looks great in our bathroom.
I ordered the matte black shower head 2.0 but it is also available in a Gorgeous matte Beige and Chrome.
Size
The overall length is roughly 26cm, the handle is roughly 4cm across and the round ring head is roughly 9cm in diameter.
How It Attaches
It only takes a few minutes to detach your old shower head and replace it with this super looking one, it is so easy.
Firstly unscrew your old shower head from the hose and then screw on your new Hello Klean head in its place, let the water run for 30 seconds and it is ready to go.
If you are changing the filter then you turn the ring head by pushing the lever on the top side of shower head.
How It Works
The Purifying Shower Head 2.0 removes 90% of hard metals from your shower water using a redox filtering which is a copper-zinc alloy. This filter that is located in the shower head itself, works by causing an electro-chemical reaction to neutralise heavy metals and also doubles the water pressure saving 20% of water.
It's Performance
I am very pleased with it's performance, the pressure and size of the head is really good for my thick and coarse hair. I noticed a big positive difference from my old shower head straight away.
The quality of the filtered water is really good you can really feel it when you are showering, the water just feels lighter is the best way of explaining it.

Shampoo Review
The Shampoo bottles are a really nice shape and has a chunky pump which is really nice, they look smart and modern in our shower room and they have lockable pumps for travel which is great.
I ordered the Anti-Thinning and the Anti-breakage shampoos to try, but they have now also launched body washes, hair conditioners and hair treatments.

Full Cover Anti-Thinning Hard Water Shampoo - Protects against hair fall and helps strengthen hair strands. While neutralising hard water that builds up on our scalps and our hair.
Ingredients include: Biotin which boosts strength to your hair, Astaxanthin which fights against oxidative stress which can cause hair loss. Aminexil which increases circulation to your scalp encourages hair growth and hair thickness and of course Kleans complex that neutralises hard metals from our Hair and scalp.
The Full Cover Anti-Thinning Shampoo is a coral colour liquid that has a silky consistency and foams up as soon as it hits water.
It feels really nice on my hair, and rinses out really easily. I really liked this shampoo and it left my hair feeling really clean and moisturised.
With continue use I hope that it is will help my thinning Peri-menopausal hair.
Full Length Anti-Breakage Shampoo
Full Length Anti-Breakage Hard Water Shampoo - is for strengthening and helping your hair become more resilient.
Ingredients include: Charcoal which is known for its neutralising abilities. Lactic acid that exfoliates and breaks down mineral deposits. Licorice Root that helps replenish moisture and of course the Klean Complex neutralises hard metals.
Full Length Anti-Breakage Shampoo is a grey charcoal colour liquid that also has a silky consistency, it foams up as soon as it hits water and the grey colour disappears. It feels really nice on my hair, and rinses out really easily. I really liked this shampoo and it left my hair feeling super clean and felt silky and stronger.
Again with continue use I hope that it is will help strengthen my brittle, coloured and Peri-menopausal hair.
Other Products To Try
Blank Space Anti-KP Body Wash: This wash treats keratosis Pilaris (KP) which is a bumpy skin condition normally found on the back of the upper arms. Ingredients include matcha and salicylic acid and of course their Klean complex that neutralises hard metals from our skin
Press Reset Anti-Dryness Body Wash: This wash calms and moisturises your skin. Ingredients including Kombucha - Vitamin B and the klean complex that neutralises hard metals from our skin
They have two different hair conditioners Smooth Talk Anti-Fading Dark Hair Conditioner and Smooth Talk Anti-Fading Light Hair Conditioner which I will be ordering and trying next.
They offer a scalp treatment called Break Down Anti-Flake Scalp Soak which I will soon be trying to see if that can help with my Psoriasis.

All the plastic bottles are 100% recyclable but they do have a metal spring in the pump that needs to be removed and recycled separately.

Hello Klean's customer service is contactable via their website by filling out a form or by email at support@helloklean.com. They encourage customers to reach out with questions about orders or help with creating a personalised routine, promising quick and friendly responses.
I did not use their customer service but reviews show that their customer service is very responsive and helpful, with instances of quick replies to queries and free replacements or upgrades when customers have experienced issues.
Their returns policy allows returns within 100 days of receipt, which is great and with refunds processed within 5-7 days after the return is inspected, but be aware that customers must pay the return shipping costs.
In summary, Hello Klean provides accessible online support with a generally positive reputation for helpful and responsive service, including proactive problem resolution and a fair return process.
Cost
The Hello Klean's Purifying Shower Head is £83 but I purchased it when it was on offer for £52.
Refills cartridges are priced at £35 for a one off purchase or they offer a smart refill plan when you subscribe - this takes the cost down to £31.50 per cartridge with automatic delivery every 3 months, plus 20% off other products and freebies.
The Shampoos and conditioners are prices at £18 for the large 380ml that I purchased but they do offer a smaller 100ml for £10 be aware that from the image on their website the 100ml shampoos look like they have a screw top rather the pump but are a perfect size for travelling.
Hello Klean's Scalp treatment is priced at £25.
I think the pricing is really good as I am used to paying £20 to £30 for a professional shampoo. The shower head priced at £83 I think is also a good price, as it is doing a lot of hard work removing all the chemicals and minerals in the water to really improve the health of our Hair, Skin and Bodies and with that peace of mind I think it is priceless.

I have noticed my hair and skin is feeling softer and more conditioned after only a week of using their products and I look forward to the long term benefits from reducing metals from my day to day life.
