In this review I will tell you all about my experience using the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer on my hair and if I think it lives up to all the hype.
Features
Five Magnetic Attachments
The Dyson Supersonic comes with 5 attachments:
- Styling Concentrator
- Diffuser
- Wide-Tooth Comb
- Gentle Air Attachment
- Flyaway Attachment
These attachments cater to various hair types and styling needs, snapping on magnetically for easy interchange.
I love the fact that the attachments are magnetic, no other hair dryer to my knowledge has this feature.
My old popular branded hair dryer I would find I would knock the attachment off quite often so this feature I feel is definitely a great bonus.
1. Styling Concentrator
The Styling concentrator attachment is my go to tool and is amazing. It is wider but slimmer then other similar attachments to other branded hair dryers.
Like its name it really does control and concentrates the air flow directly to each section of hair you are working on to give you quick drying with smoother results.
2. Gentle Air Attachment
The gentle air attachment is for really delicate and fine hair or sensitive scalps, or hair which is damaged or prone to falling.
It delivers gentle air to your hair, I would suggest if your hair is more suitable for this attachment to use it along with the cooler heat and lower air speed setting to prevent damage to your hair and encourage regrowth, healing and repairing.
3. Diffuser
The Diffuser attachment delivers gentle but disperses air evenly and more of a natural drying and is for defining curls and reducing frizz.
4. Wide-tooth Comb
The wide tooth comb is for lengthening curly and coily hair. This comb lengthens your hair as it drys it.
5. Flyaway Attachment
The flyaway attachment is to give you a really ultra smooth finish by attracting the longer fly aways as it drys your hair.
I look forward to trying this tool next time I dry my hair.
Other Features
Three Heat Settings
On the right hand side on the back of the hair dryer there is a red button this is the heat setting. Above this button is 3 red lights, which show you which heat setting you have chosen.
One light is level 1 heat , Two lights is level 2 heat and Three lights is level 3 heat. I definitely noticed straight away how gentle even the hottest level of heat is compared to other popular brand hair dryers I have used before in the past which must be so much better for your hair to have no extreme heat.
Cold Shot
On the handle of the Dyson Supersonic Hair dryer is a blue button and this is your cold shot for setting your blow dry at the end of styling to help keep flyaways under control.
Three Speed Settings
On the left hand side on the back of the hair dryer is a button with a fan image this is the fan/air speed setting. Above this button is 3 white lights, which show you which speed setting you have chosen.
One light is level 1 speed , Two lights is level 2 speed and Three lights is level 3 speed.
Noise Level
One of the Supersonic's standout features is its relatively quiet operation.
I love how much quieter this hair dryer is again compared to other popular brand hair dryers I have used in the pass.
The motor's innovative design and positioning contribute to a significantly reduced noise level compared to traditional hair dryers.
Light Weight
Because this device has the motor in the handle and has a unusual but very efficient design and shape makes it so much lighter then other hair dryers which normally feel very top heavy.
This design means it is much more comfortable to hold for extended periods of time which is ideal for professional hairdressers using this device all day or if like me you have thick course hair that takes a while to dry and style.
I also suffer from sore wrists and tired arms from my work as a skincare therapist, I perform facials and massage all day within my job role.
So the lightness of this hair dryer is a massive bonus for me.
How to U
- Select one of the magnetic attachments suitable for your hair type and desired style.
- Push the ON button up to start the hair dryer
- Choose from four heat settings from cold shot to hot and three speed slow, medium and fast settings.
- Use the cold shot button for setting your style.
How It Works
The Dyson Supersonic is powered by a Dyson digital motor V9, which spins at up to 110,000rpm. It utilises Air Multiplier™ technology to produce a high-pressure jet of controlled air for fast drying and precision styling.
I definitely found it much quicker at blowing drying my hair with this hair dryer compared to other branded hair dryers I have used in the past.
The device also features intelligent heat control, measuring the temperature 40 times per second to prevent heat damage. Which is amazing for someone like myself who is really wanting a hair dryer that looks after and cares for your hair rather then damaging it.
How I used m
- Firstly I washed and conditioned my hair.
- Then I detangled my hair by using a wide tooth comb then I applied a styling product with heat protection through my hair.
- Then I sectioned my hair into small manageable sized sections.
- I then blow dried each section using the Styling Concentrator attachment using tension to straighten and smooth my hair as I go.

The Dyson Supersonic is priced at a premium, which may be considered a drawback for some consumers.

The Supersonic™ Presentation Case is available in various colours, including Tan and Pale Rose. These cases neatly store the hair dryer and attachments, protecting them from dents and scratches.
I purchased the Presentation Case shown above. I really wanted to protect my hair dryer while traveling and storing it in my suitcase so I ordered the presentation case in tan and I love it.
Closer look
These cases are perfect for protecting your hair dryer they have a magnetic closure tab and a thick velvety lining inside and a faux leather on the outer side. They are very sturdy and strong and my hairdryer and the Concentrator Styling Attachment fits lovely inside I am very pleased with it.

Would I recommend it?
YES I really would recommend the Dyson Supersonic Hair dryer, I was looking for a new hair dryer as my one was getting old and started to be not very efficient, plus my hair has changed over the last 5 years due to my hormones and ageing.
As I have moved into the peri-menopausal stage of my life aged 45, my hair has become more coarse, more frizzy and more brittle so I wanted to buy a hair dryer that would care for my hair rather then cause damage. After some research I realised the Dyson hair dryer was what I was looking for.
Although the price is quite high for a hair dryer and the most I have ever spent on a hair tool, I felt it would be the best option for me and my needs and I am so glad that I purchased it.
The top things I love about my Dyson Supersonic hair dryer are the following:

- The weightlessness of the device - less arm strain
- The low noise level/quiet operation
- The Intelligent heat control to prevent damage to my hair
